Automotive Body Mechanic Career Working Environment
Most automotive body repairers work a standard 40-hour week, although others - especially the self-employed - work more hours. These workers are usually indoors in body shops that tend to be noisy due to the hammering against metal and the use of power tools. Most shops are well ventilated. Body repairers often work in cramped or awkward positions and much of their work is dirty and strenuous. Hazards include burns from heated metal and torches, cuts from sharp metal edges and fumes from paint. Serious accidents are usually avoided when the shop is clean and orderly and proper safety practices are observed.
