Cardiovascular Technician Career Details

Cardiovascular technicians assist doctors in diagnosing and treating heart ailments. The nature of their assistance depends on what kind of physician they are working under. Some might be involved with invasive procedures which would include inserting small tubes into the patient's system to lessen the blockage of blood vessels. For the most part they assist the doctor with minor surgeries around the heart and major blood vessels.

Other technicians might find themselves preparing clients for invasive procedures and check ups. This could include shaving, cleaning, and administering anesthesia to the patient. This may also involve monitoring the same patient's blood pressure and heart rate using standard EKG equipment. Cardiovascular technicians can even monitor patients during open heart surgery.

Another possible aspect of the job involves the use of ultrasound. These tests are noninvasive as they don't require the insertion of anything into the patient's body. The ultrasound allows an image to be formed, which, in turn, allows the physician to give a proper diagnosis. The scan involves a screen and the ability to judge which images are necessary and which are extraneous. Cardiovascular technicians may also be required to work with patients and explain any problems and answer any questions that they might have.
