Optometric Technician Career Details

The duties of this profession include taking preliminary medical histories, preparing patients for eye examinations, conducting simple vision tests, recording the results of eye examinations, measuring patients for correct and comfortable fits of glasses, suggesting appropriate eyeglass shape and size, making adjustments and repairs on finished eyeglasses, assisting the optometrist in teaching the patient how to use and maintain contact lenses and how to carry out programs of vision therapy exercises.

Optometric technicians clean and care for optometric instruments as well as handle routine functions so that the optometrist is free to carry out the more technical aspects of her or his practice.
